Revolutionizing Trauma-Competent Systems: Empowering Change Through Education and Support

Welcome to FolkTime's Training and Technical Assistance Center, the pioneering force driving the transformation of systems and organizations into trauma-competent entities. With our wide array of trainings and technical assistance supports, we are dedicated to equipping individuals and institutions with the tools they need to create inclusive and empathetic environments.

What Makes FolkTime Training Different

At FolkTime, our trainings are created and delivered by individuals with both lived and professional experience. This unique blend brings authenticity, depth, and relevance to every session we offer, ensuring that participants feel seen, supported, and understood.

As a nonprofit organization, 100% of the income from our trainings is reinvested directly into building the peer support workforce and expanding programming that benefits the broader community. When you train with us, you’re not just learning—you’re contributing to a movement rooted in mutual support and community wellness.

Peer-Centered and Trauma-Competent

Our trainings are intentionally designed to be different from traditional classroom experiences. We recognize that many people have experienced trauma in institutional or educational settings, so we prioritize emotional safety, choice, and connection. Our facilitators don’t just teach—they hold space. As peers with shared lived experience, they offer empathy, real-world insight, and a deep commitment to shared learning.

We know that people learn in many different ways. FolkTime embraces neurodiversity by offering a variety of learning formats—including in-person, virtual, and hybrid options—as well as flexible pacing and supportive environments to meet people where they are. We also partner with organizations to customize trainings that fit unique needs, schedules, and goals.

Flexible, Accessible, and Inclusive

Culturally Responsive and Equity-Driven

Our trainings are built with cultural humility and responsiveness at the core. We strive to create inclusive spaces where people of all identities feel welcome and respected.

In addition to peer support training, FolkTime offers certification trainings for Community Health Workers (CHWs) and Personal Health Navigators (PHNs). These programs prepare individuals to bridge gaps in care, support health equity, and serve their communities in meaningful, culturally responsive ways.

Expanding the Workforce

Rooted in Community and Connection

Training with FolkTime is about more than gaining knowledge—it’s about joining a supportive and evolving community. We intentionally weave in time for reflection, conversation, and peer connection, so participants leave not only with tools and insights, but also with a sense of belonging.

Whether you’re entering the field, building new skills, or deepening your impact, FolkTime’s trainings offer a welcoming, transformative experience grounded in lived experience, compassion, and community.
